Error from domain wrapper: Domain already exists, it was not added

when I tried to install mynewdomain.com on my shared hosting server using the addon domains within cpanel

I got the following error

Addon Domain Additions

There was a problem creating the addondomain. Show Details

Error from domain wrapper: Domain already exists, it was not added.: mynewdomain.myserverdomain.com

I didn’t quite understand what the complaint was about because it said Domain already exists

However this is a new domain that I was trying to install!

OK, here are the steps to troubleshoot

Check

Whether you have a subdomain with the same name already created?

You need to check within the /public_html folder (this is where you will have separate directories for all your sites hosted on the server)

Make sure that there is no other folder with the same name, it is common to have a folder with the same name if you have installed domains with the same name but with different extenstions. For example

mynewdomain.com

mynewdomain.net

if you are using the automated addon domain process which comes with cpanel then both domains would try to create the folder “mynewdomain” within /public_html and would give you an error when installing the second domain.

OK, so to avoid the problem you need to change the folder name for the new domain you are trying to install, then there will not be a clash of names within /public_html

OK so Next time if this happens it is possible to change the name of the subdomain

When adding the new domain , the 2nd option is to create the subdomain name.

If you are using cpanel this one is automatically populated with a folder name for your site in /public_html

That is creating the subdomain without clashes !.

Web hosting is a service provided by companies that own servers that allows customers to publish their own web page. The types and price of web hosting varies greatly. It’s important to know what you need in a web host, and more importantly what the company offers, so that you don’t end up paying more while getting less.

Some Internet Service Providers, or ISPs, offer free web hosting in the form of a free web page or blog. There are other services that allow users to create their own websites or web pages with a subdomain (ie: www.site.com/subdomain). These free services are usually funded by pop up ads or banner ads on the user’s website. Free or cheap web hosting services are usually the best choice for individuals with no web developing background as many of these companies offer web interface tools to help create the actual web space.

However, web hosting packages can be bought from some companies and this allows the advanced individual or business to have a website without any banner ads or pop ups. This often gives a more professional look to the website. There are many different price ranges; it is important to know what you need before you buy because otherwise, you may end up paying for more than you need. If you don’t anticipate having too many visitors or if you are on a budget, there are basic and economy packages that usually offer basic web hosting services for a decent price. If you plan to use your website for a small business or you anticipate having many visitors to your website each day, a deluxe package may be a better choice. For large businesses with thousands of page views daily, a premium or dedicated server package will optimize your experience in website management.

There are many things to consider when looking for web hosting. Once you find out what your needs are for a website, you’ll find many options available to you.

There are so many time consuming little things that conspire against you when you first start your online adventure. Selecting a hosting provider is one of them. How do you find a good hosting provider ? By the way you need hosting, if you plan to put your site on the Internet (so that other can see your web pages).

What ever you do, don’t buy hosting services from local companies. I’ve made this mistake in the past and paid quite a lot in price and time. It’s simply a nightmare to get things done with them and they never provide 24X7 support! These are the cheaper and more efficient options.

Depending on the size of the site or the number of sites you want to host, There are 3 main answers.

If you want to host a simple site, then go for Hostgator. They are world famous for providing this service for a very small price (about $4.95/ month). There are many packages but the best one I’ve used so far is the “Baby” package for Web Hosting. You can select your preferred operating system as well (I prefer Linux, it’s more robust and easier to use, but if you like you can select windows). With the “Hostgator Baby” package you can host a unlimited number of domains, meaning you can buy any number of domain names and host them here. Quite a good deal ?

If I want to host many high traffic sites, then I use a Virtual Private Server (VPS) from Jaguar (jaguarpc.com) they have some very good deals costing about $19.97 / Month. When you use a VPS, you are given your own VPS, but main hardware (CPU, RAM, etc..) on the server are shared between many VPSs. On this, You can host about 500 site, with about 300 pages per site. Their customer service and support is superb. Usually you get a reply to your queries within minutes.

Lastly if I want to host 1000s of very large site, I use a dedicated server from Softlayer (softlayer.com). They come with good CPUs, RAM etc..Prices start from $139 / Month. Very solid networks, fast connections, etc…

So those are the options… if you are just starting your online journey, I would go for a “Hostgator Baby”. Once you buildup some traffic you can migrate to a Virtual Private Server (VPS) from Jaguar. Once you have quite a lot of traffic and web pages you can select a dedicated server from Softlayer.

Make a quick decision and Jump start your online journey !
By the way if you are still struggling to find a domain name read
How to buy a Domain name ?

When you get started on your online, money making journey, there are so many decisions to make. For example you need to decide how to buy a domain name and which domain name to buy etc…read this if you are still at the domain name buying site setting up deciding state.

Once you have climbed that hurdle, next step is to decide how to set up a site. This stage can be especially intimidating if you are new to technologies like html, php etc.

With a Blog like Wordpress …

Once of the best shortcuts you can take at this point is to use a Blog (like Wordpress). This is a lot more simpler and quicker than trying to setup a site. If select a hosting provider like Hostgator, you can setup a wordpress blog with a few simple clicks , and it won’t take more than 3 minutes.

Once you’ve done this the next step is to find a nice blog theme from thousands of themes available for free at http://themes.wordpress.net/
once you have done the above now it’s a simple matter of logging in to your blog to post content.
As and when you post, wordpress will ping and alert the search engines to visit your site. This is automatic promotion for your site, which helps the blog to get indexed in search engines like google in quick time, faster than a simple website would get listed in Google.
All this is easy, and hassle free !

With a web site …

you have to go through the hassle of either building the site or paying some one to build a site.
The steps involved are

Find a developer

Specify the requirements

pay them (on some projects I am still waiting for the product to be delivered.)

wait for the initial design

etc…

So my recommendation is go for a blog and simplify your online journey.
